Bay Community Medical Team 2015

What a pleasure it is to host teams from Bay Community Church of Daphne, AL.  They always come with a heart to serve, and they serve from sun up to sun down.  This team was no exception! We did more in one week with this multi-tasking team than even seems possible.  It truly felt like they were here two weeks with all the things we packed into just 7 days!  We have never seen a team so flexible and ready to go the extra mile.  Extraordinary people.

It was so exciting to be in San Pedro Sula and attend a service at the Bay – Honduras campus on their first night in the country.  Then we headed to Rio Viejo the next morning to begin preparations for a week of medical brigades.  We knew immediately that we wanted to cover the village that was missed by the last group because of the heavy rains.  Little did we know that our own plans would be tried and tested by so many obstacles during the week. We jokingly told the team that even though we had printed out a plan A, to not be surprised if we were on plan C or D before we finished breakfast.  We had no idea how true that would be!

The week did not go as planned, but it was absolutely amazing! We saw patients in four villages, unloaded a container of medical equipment in La Ceiba and brought it ALL up the mountain, helped teach at the high school, Instituto el Rey, across the street (and even sponsored the last nine seventh grade students who were without sponsors!), sorted and filled 600 backpacks with school supplies, installed air conditioning in the Jungle Hospital, and so many other things. It was one of the most productive and fulfilling weeks we have ever had!  When the last day rolled around and the team was supposed to go have fun in the city, they instead chose to hike to that very remote village that had been missed because of bad weather with the team in February.  They chose to serve.

Thank you to the flexible leaders who prepared flexible team members, Pastor Dale Ryals and our favorite pharmacist David Fulton! You guys prepared and led one of the best teams we have ever had the privilege of hosting from Bay Community Church.  Thank you for being such awesome servant leaders.  You set a wonderful example and they followed, very well. Thank you Bay Community medical team for a job well done!
