Welcome to the Jungle, Dr. Brittany and Garrett! February brought us two new crew members and what a blast it has been getting to know them. Even though Dr. Brittany was only here for a 4-week rotation, she immediately fit in as a part of the family! Dr. Brittany was our first resident of the year from our new partnership with Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Dr. Brittany is an excellent pediatrician and was so loving to our patients – we are already looking forward to her return next year during her time as chief resident.
Garrett is a new 6-month intern who will be with us until the end of July, when he will head off to graduate school at the University of Tennessee to study physical therapy. Having trained as an athletic trainer, Garrett is already proving to be a great asset, providing therapy to many of our patients and teaching them how to find pain relief through stretches and exercises.
A highlight of the month was when Dr. Brittany, Alex, and Garrett were able to spend a day in the labor and delivery ward at the public hospital in La Ceiba. They assisted in five births that afternoon and had the opportunity to give gift bags of toys, clothes, and hygiene items to all of the mothers in the recovery area. It was great training for Alex and Garrett, as we anxiously await the next baby to be born here at the Jungle Hospital.
