Jacksonville Education Team

Earl “Chunky” Miller and his wife Dawn led a group from Jacksonville, Florida to do education brigades here in La Cuenca Cangrejal.  They were joined by their daughters, Hugo Vega and his family, plus Chris Wellmon, Jennifer Fleet, and Sarah Willis.

The group kicked off their trip with a school visit to Urraco. They also visited Tocontin and Yaruca. Clearly they didn’t mind battling the bugs, as they hiked to three different villages to do educational brigades: San Luis, El Paraiso, and Lo Limpios. They also got to go up to the orphanage, Give Hope 2 Kids, and do a school visit.

San Luis is a small village of around 50 people, and during our health lessons for the kids, Doctor Martin even got some of the parents to participate! We gave them small prizes to thank them for their participation. While we were up there, we also did a medical brigade, and we saw nearly every resident of the village as a patient.

We were very proud of this group in particular, because they were the first group of the summer to learn all of the dances and puppet skits that we use to tell the children about our Christian faith. This gave us a wonderful opportunity to minister to all of the children we saw in both a medical and spiritual way.

This team also loved going to the river. They took every opportunity to go and stack rocks; they even made a competition out of who could stack the most number of rocks!

The team wrapped up the week with our usual lip synch battle, and a fun day in La Ceiba. We are so grateful to have gotten to know them and served with them over the last week!
