For me being an intern at the jungle hospital afforded me the privilege of not only serving the undeserved but also of being able to learn from some of the most godly hard working and knowledgeable missionaries there are. The staff at the Jungle Hospital is so diverse in their personalities, skills, and experiences that it is impossible not learn something new from each of them every day. While in Honduras I learned a lot about medicine, how to practice medicine in the jungle and how to use it as a ministry tool. I also learned a ton about missions and the how mission organizations work, I guess living with a bunch of full time missionaries will do that. Outside of the clinic I learned a bit about construction (specifically how important a proper lunch break is…thanks mark) and how to serve the short term missions teams that came to serve at the Jungle Hospital. Outside of these more practical skills I believe that my time in Honduras was a time where God spoke to me and where I was able to learn how to be a better Christian through my experiences. I cannot say enough about the full time staff at the Jungle Hospital, everyone of them displays the heart of a servant so well but through different personalities and being able to see that everyday and try to follow their example was one of the best spiritually growing opportunities of my life. Some may say its too hot, or too much work or complain about the food but to me there is no greater place to learn about missions while serving those who Jesus spoke about in Matthew 25. I encourage anyone who decides to become an intern to go with an attitude of complete humility and be ready to serve in any capacity asked of you, if you do this there is no limit to what God can do through you while you are in Honduras.
