Spring Forward

We have had a busy few months here at the Jungle Hospital, hosting guests, traveling, welcoming our summer interns and preparing for our next round of mission teams. We had a wonderful and productive visit with Dr. Trey Melker from Baton Rouge, LA back in April. Dr. Trey is a retired OBGYN who dedicates a several weeks a few times each year to serve with us in Honduras. We are so blessed to call him a friend of the Jungle Hospital, and look forward to his return.

We also welcomed, for the first time, Gail Moore. She is a Physician’s Assistant from Tennessee with a huge heart to serve. She came to help in our out-patient clinic and also went with Dr. Martin and our nursing staff to the remote village of Las Minas for 2 days of intense patient visits. We loved having her and hope that this will be the first of many visits in the future.

On May 23, the Jungle Hospital received the newest summer interns: Matt and Michelle Austin and Jessica Bottomley. Both Matt and Jessica have served with us in the past, and it has been great to have them back on campus. After a few days of intense orientation to jungle life this year’s J-Team is ready to rock and roll. They have already been integral in helping us prepare for our next summer team, Lee University, and we can’t wait to see them in action as the groups arrive!

We also had a wonderful visit from some of our HHGlobal Board Members, Ben and Pam Williams along with their daughter, Kirsten. Ben and Pam are long time friends of Dr. Martin and Wendy Williams, and it was incredible to see them all back together again. The family was so excited to see what God has done in Rio Viejo over the past 6 years, and are looking forward to what is yet to come.

As we prepare for an incredible summer of serving our community with medical brigades,  health education classes, and community development projects we can’t help but be excited about it! God has sent us a wonderful team of committed volunteers and we can’t wait to see what He does next! Stay tuned for more updates from JungleHospital.com and see it all unfold!
