Our 2024 team season ended with a bang as we hosted a combined medical group from Healing Place Church (Baton Rouge, LA) and Celebration Church (Shreveport, LA). Monday and Tuesday we saw patients at the hospital and Wednesday and Thursday we were out in the communities of El Naranjo and El Paraiso. The providers and team members gave consults, prayed with patients, and our wonderful pharmacy team was kept busy filling the prescriptions.
The team was so eager and willing to help when the medical brigades were finished so we filled the afternoons with projects around campus that included cleaning and preparing the Children’s Center that will be opening in the coming months. The team had a party staining picnic tables, sealing counters, and lots of sweeping. One afternoon a few team members went over to see Instituto El Rey, the high school across the street, for a tour and to learn about sponsoring students. Even though each day was filled to the brim, these guys still had energy for an intense round of cards after dinner each evening. The Children’s Center is expected to be dedicated and opened this Fall. We are looking forward to what God is going to do through the new feeding and tutoring program!
Another highlight of the week was having Rachel and her husband, Tyler, join the team for a visit. It’s been five years since Rachel’s last visit so needless to say our hearts were filled with joy to have our girl home for the week. God is good and we are thankful!
